etherFAX’s most recent patent provides systems with the ability to determine capabilities about the destination prior to sending a document. Therefore, the application can choose to use the best mutual capabilities for faxing remotely between the sender and the receiver. The etherFAX Remote FAX Interconnect implements the virtualization of fax systems and enables remote aggregation of a physical fax device to manage and control transmitted data. As a proprietary, real-time encrypted communication transport between fax servers and the etherFAX data center, the etherFAX communications protocol (ECP) ensures 100 percent reliability.
Supporting every major fax server, application and fax-enabled device, etherFAX has more connected endpoints providing end-to-end encryption than any other service. etherFAX leverages multiple defense-in-depth strategies including two-factor authentication, end-to-end encryption, and in-network routing to guarantee that patient data and business-critical information remain protected.

In addition to the Secure Exchange Network, etherFAX SENx brings end-to-end encryption to subscribers through etherFAX’s APIs using methods defined by the Elliptic Curve Integrated Encryption Scheme (ECIES). ECIES generates a shared secret between peers to seed the encryption process with unique keying material, while further protecting the information using signing and authentication mechanisms to assure the validity of the data in transit. With etherFAX SENx, information is encrypted from the moment it leaves the sending device or application until it is accepted and validated by the receiving party.
